Postcards from Paris...Place Pigalle/lower Montmarte

The world-famous "Moulin Rouge."

Place Pigalle and the lower Montmarte are the scene of much of Paris's naughtier night life. Le Moulin Rouge, "the Red Mill" which dates from 1889, is quite expensive and the shows there have an element of class lacking in many of the other clubs around Pigalle and the lower Montmartre. Despite the more upscale Moulin Rouge, the truth of the area is that this for years has been Paris's "red light" district where painter Toulouse-Lautrec contracted syphilis.

The entry to Le Moulin Rouge. Note the "can-can" dancers painted on the wall.

(Yeah, guys, definitely watch for pickpockets in the red light district as it is a well known tourist spot).

By the way, was the show any good? How much is it to get in, these days?

You are so right about the pickpockets!

I didn't attend the show - the least expensive ticket, a seat at the bar was 80 Euros. A table was 155 Euros per person. Trop cher!M
